Update: GPD, Campus Safety still investigating battery incident

The Galesburg Police Department and Campus Safety are still investigating Thursday’s “inappropriate touch” incident in which a female Knox student received unwanted physical contact on campus Thursday.

The offender, according to Director of Campus Safety John Schlaf, is likely not a Knox student. This is based on reviewing security video and a clip of the offender before the incident was confirmed by the victim. Any further action, Schlaf said, is pending the result of a photo lineup from GPD.

When asked about safety on campus, Schlaf said they believe this was an isolated incident.

“However, we can’t miss the opportunity to remind each of our students to … be aware of what’s taking place around them and be prepared to take appropriate action as it relates to personal safety,” Schlaf said.

In terms of this incident, Schlaf commended the victim on promptly reporting it. He hopes this will lead to a “positive outcome” in the case.

“She was quick to make the report and articulate in her description and recollection,” Schlaf said.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Thursday between Post Hall and the Quads (Four-Name).
