GALESBURG — During the budget open forum held Tuesday, President Teresa Amott answered a student question about whether work on Alumni Hall will be put off until the college’s financial difficulties have subsided. Amott restated that donors are given a variety of options when considering whether to give a gift to the college.
“We have always said that we would not start Alumni Hall until we had raised in dedicated gifts enough to do the whole project, so we’re not there yet. We’re at about $9.5 million, and we’re going to need at least $11.5 million before we can start it,” Amott said.
Students asked about the source of funding for the exterior work that has already been completed.
“The exterior renovations were funded through a state of Illinois and a federal grant … the federal money came from a grant called the Save America’s Treasures Grant, which is a grant to sure up and save older buildings that are crumbling … that’s not money we could’ve used for anything else,” Amott said.
