The Gizmo still doesn’t deliver, but eatGburg.com does. Just this week, the website launched with online order options for takeout and delivery at three local eateries (as of Thursday): Cherry Street, Hammer’s General Feed Store and C&R’s Smokehouse and BBQ. More restaurants are likely to join them — Q’s Cafe appears to be being added — but in the meantime, these places offer sizable menus for delivery and takeout. The hungry and lazy won’t be bored anytime soon.
Ordering hours are more restricted than walk-in hours and all three places have a minimum order of $15-20. So these options may be more suited for eating with company rather than alone. On the plus side, you can include items from all restaurants on the same order. Delivery fees are $2.50 per restaurant.
Placing an order appears simple, with drop-down menus and comment boxes to customize orders as if you were ordering in person. Menu item prices are also the same as walk-in before adding the delivery fee. None of the restaurants currently on the site offer beverages for delivery, though, so be sure to pick something up from the C-Store (or Quick Sam’s if it suits your fancy and age) beforehand.
It’s still cold outside, so why not try it out? It might be the future of food in Galesburg.
